Levi before getting off to her surgery ... Just wanted to update everyone. Levi's surgery was Tuesday, July 27, and was considered successful. Yesterday, late afternoon, July 28, I brought her home and we have begun her recovery process. |

| Her left rear femur was re-broken, straightened out, and then held together with a metal plate fastened with screws. Then her knee was re-aligned and the tendon anchorage just below the knee was moved and re-fastened with screws. She was then sutured using staples. No bandage wraps and splints were required because of the internal metal plating. It's hopefull that her muscles, which over time had shortened due to the odd angle of her leg, will stretch to match the new alignment. Time and physical therapy will help with the knee. Veterinarians expect her to do quite well due to her young age of 2 to 3 years and her good, uncomplaining attitude. |

She ate well last night and again this morning and is up and about. The trick will be to keep her as quiet as possible. She is hobbling around well on three legs, using her corrected leg a little for balance. She is on Cephalexin and Rimadyl. Tomorrow afternoon (Friday), we go back to Harrison Memoral Animal Hospital to meet with a physical therapist vet. Expectation is that she will need six to eight weeks to heal along with the rehab. We already have a couple of bending exercises for her to do graduating up to twenty times a day. Levi's sutures (staples) will come out in 10 to 14 days. She will need to go in for radiographs and progress review visits at 4, 6, and 8 weeks. The veterinarian costs for the past two days are $1,453.83 which does not include All Setter Rescue's discount. There was a no charge on the Invoice for the corrective Osteotomy, which is essentially the surgeon's fee, performed by Dr. Matt Rooney. Hats off to Harrison and Dr. Matt Rooney for both their skill and care. Their compassion to help Levi, All Setter Rescue, Shelters and Rescue Groups, along with other animals in need is forever ongoing. Also, hats off to Dr. Melissa Leonhardt who is Levi's attending veterinarian. |
